Every month, I plan to give you an overview of the best online slots that will be published in that month. For some slots, that’s based on an actual playing session. For other games, I’ll have to rely on predictions based on screenshots, information from the developer, or simply the developer’s or predecessor’s reputation.
Feb 7: Book of Inferno (Quickspin)
Book of Inferno (playable for free on the Quickspin website) is one of a few titles that refreshes the wildly popular Book of… mechanism. All of these titles (also Book of Sam, Book of Power, and Book of Books) are set to release about the same time, and I feel at least one of them will be a mainstay for years to come.
Book of Inferno has good odds to be that mainstay because of its hellish design, which stands out to say the least. On top of that, there is a marked symbol feature that can trigger the expanding symbol feature in the base game, too. In the bonus, it’s possible to gather multiple expanding symbols.
Feb 7: Benji Killed in Vegas (NoLimit City)
In an effort to compare the big developers, I once referred to Play’n GO games as the Call of Duty franchise. Its games are well-made, slick, highly playable, if not revolutionary. Following the same logic, NoLimit City is Rockstar. They don’t just make better games, but each of their games pushes the boundaries.
NoLimit City often pushes boundaries when it comes to good taste, but Benji Killed in Vegas isn’t as hardcore as other titles such as Mental. It features three men found on dollar bills dressed up as extravagant rappers.
Feb 28: Winterberries 2 (Yggdrasil)
It’s not uncommon for successful slots to get a sequel, but few companies will wait as long as Yggdrasil has. The original Winterberries is a nostalgic slot that was well over ten years old when its successor was made. It featured re-spins with locked symbols, which was enough back then to get away with no other features and a low max win.
This new edition fixes those problems. Its math model has been updated to fulfill the wishes for modern players with a max win of 10,000x. Gameplay was updated with a bonus game, too, although the respins are left intact.
Tropicool 2 (Elk Studios)
Tropicool is an ice-themed slot that also incorporates a tropical beach. And sloths, naturally. The original had frozen features that could be unleashed on the reels and gave Elk Studios a pretty solid hit, but this second version triples the frozen features above the reels, injects a walking sloth that enables extra hits, and also supersizes the math model to suit players looking for bigger wins.
