3 Clown Monty has a great atmosphere, a great potential (max 20,000x win), and the layered approach to free spins that Play ‘n Go has been trying out in Lord Merlin and the Lady of the Lake and The Green Knight. If you manage to combine the 10x or 25x multiplier with the Monty Spins, you’re set for a great time. Even smaller multipliers can land you a pretty big win. Theme and Atmosphere
The atmosphere is great, if a bit weird. Why a face painted gorilla heads a clown slot is beyond me, but as long as he keeps dishing out 25x multipliers, I won’t complain. The theme is original enough, and supported by the overall design and soundtrack.
Gameplay and bonuses
The base game has two bonuses. First, there’s a random multiplier present above the reels. Before each spin, this multiplier can go from 2x to 25x, applying the multiplier to any wilds that appear. Wins using the wild will apply the multiplier (once, no matter how many wilds you use).
The second extra appears when you land two scatters. Here, one of the scatters can turn into a wild clown or scatter clown. With the wild clown, you receive a random number of extra wilds. The scatter clown adds the third scatter needed to receive the free spins. A ‘pick a card’ bonus reveals the amount of free spins you win: 5, 6, or 7 for three scatters, with additional scatters raising those numbers.
During the free spins, two scatters unlock the Monty Spins, a layered bonus game. These Monty Spins give you 4, 5 or 6 of these spins, where wilds are sticky and always have a multiplier. As we’ve seen in other Play ‘n Go games, this gives you the chance (but hardly a guarantee) to ramp up the wins. At the end of the Monty Spins, a 50/50 game determines if you receive three additional Monty Spins or not.
Math
The 20,000x potential is good, and doesn’t come at the cost of long dry spells. Two extras in the base game help you keep up your bank roll, but can also land you wins big enough to quit for the day. Overall, the balance seems fine.
